Cycas revoluta, commonly known as the Sago Palm, is a species of gymnosperm in the family Cycadaceae. Native to southern Japan, including the Ryukyu Islands, it is an ancient plant with a palm-like appearance. The Sago Palm features an erect main stem topped by a crown of shiny, arching, pinnate leaves that are 60-150 cm long. It is slow-growing and can reach heights of 0.5-2 meters, and up to 8 meters in very old specimens. Despite its name, it is not a true palm but a cycad, a type of plant that predates even the dinosaurs. It is valued for its ornamental qualities and is used both in gardens and as a houseplant
Soil: Grow in a mixture of loam, compost, coarse bark, and grit.
Fertilizer: Use slow-release fertilizer in the compost and top-dress seasonally to encourage growth.
Light: Provide full light but protect from direct sunlight to prevent leaf burn.
Watering: Avoid over-watering as it can lead to root rot. Ensure the soil is well-draining.
