Platycerium ferns |Staghorns | TLFT – 75

AED 30.00

Platycerium ferns, commonly known as Staghorns, have some fascinating qualities that make them stand out. Their leaves exhibit a variety of textures—some fuzzy, bumpy, waffle-like, or ridged. This diversity adds visual interest.  Platyceriums resemble something out of the Devonian period—a blend of tropical and prehistoric vibes. Even the smaller varieties make a spectacular statement in your home. They produce two types of leaves: the lower frond (shield) encases whatever they’re growing on, while the “fertile frond” forks out, creating the characteristic stag horn look. Some have nearly white leaves, while others resemble big chunks of kelp. Collectors specialize exclusively in Platyceriums due to their uniqueness. Surprisingly, they thrive in room humidity alongside other plants. Bright indirect light suits them well.

Watering: Water frequently and consistently, but wait until the base dries out before watering again. These ferns appreciate humidity, so consider placing them in a humid room (like a bathroom) or increasing humidity around the plant. Water frequently

Light: Staghorn ferns prefer consistent but shaded light. They can handle more sunlight if provided with enough water, warmth, and humidity. Be cautious about direct rays hitting the delicate fronds to prevent burning.

Soil and Mounting: Staghorn ferns are epiphytes, meaning they grow on other plants or objects. They thrive without soil. Once mature, mount them on a wooden board or bark slab using peat, compost, or moss as a base. As new fronds grow, they’ll gradually hide the mounting material.
